What are some of the effects it would have on earth? Would it be cataclysmic?
Great answer Jon. Do you think it would end human life?

It would be chaos for wildlife. Many wild creatures use the moon to navigate and to time reproductive cycles. Oysters and coral would all die, and all the creatures that depend on them. Tides would also disappear, which would change ocean currents. So the ocean ecosystem would collapse, and most migrating birds, mammals, and insects would also die.
The changed ocean currents would affect air currents, so weather would be different. Floods in regions that were deserts before, no rain in the rainforest, things like that. So, for a few years afterward, it would be cataclysmic. But things would stabilize.
Dropping huge chunks of the Moon onto the Earth is clearly not a good thing.
If you broke it up gently enough, you might just make a ring, without any excess debris hitting the Earth. At the distance the Moon is located, gravitational instability would cause the Moon to reform.
Nothing probably we won’t have moon light no more:/
